The Daily Schedule of a Buddhist Monk

This is a schedule that I found on the internet of the schedule of a Buddhist monk. Just try to imagine yourself in the Monks’ places.

The usual daily routine of the monks is:

1. 5.45 Wake-up Bell

2. 6.00 to 7.00 Morning Prayer (Puja [prayer] in the prayer hall with breakfast)

3. 7.30 to 9.00 Recitation and memorizing of the prayer/ritual texts

4. 9.00 to 10.00 Tibetan Language Class

5. 10.00 to 11.00 English Language Class

6. 11.30 to 13.00 Lunch Break

7. 13.00 to 14.00 Tibetan Language Class

8. 14.00 to 15.00 Revision of the day’s lesson

9. 15.00 Tea Break

10. 15.00 to 17.00 Revision of recitation and memorization of the prayer/ritual texts

11. Break

12. 19.00 to 21.00 Evening Prayer and Recitations

13. 21.00 to 21.30 Self study

14. 21.30 Bed and light off

    Nice article Ash!
    Between, I went to a “French monk place” and I saw how awful and difficult and tiring to live like that. This is very true, imagine yourself live like that! It would be awful! However, they have chosen to live like this and I will respect them forever 😀

      I agree with you Charles. Monks do have a rigorous life and I respect them for choosing such a path in their lives.

    Very interesting! It is surprising that these monks study English everyday. Also, I wonder why they study the Tibetan language for 2 hours a day. Are these Tibetan monks? Where did you find this site, Ash?

      Yes these are Tibetian monks, they are very similar to the Shaolin monks. I am also intrigued at the fact that they learn English, even though they might not have to use it so often! This website was given to me by my mother, I will try and find the link.

    Alright, I will tell you my true identity, I love your blogg, you have putdown alot of knowlege here and I can feel great fengshui on this page. I hope that my words have made you wonder and think, as I said last time, questions is thougts and ieas, are more important then the answer (knowlege). I write from ortiental and daoist princips and the way of the heart mind and soul teachings.

    I’ve been to different temples and got alot of different teachings, that is why I name it the way of heart mind and soul.
